BILL MANGLARIS - OWNER

CHRIS WEST
Instruments Available for Instruction: classical guitar, steel string acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar (fretted and fretless), bottleneck slide guitar, and lap steel guitar.
Biography: Chris has been teaching for over seventeen years at El Rey.  He has worked as a solo classical guitarist, played for theatrical productions, and has done studio recording for commercials and demos.  He has played in many bands over the years with styrange names (his favorite was "The Droolers" but no restaurant would book them).  He is now a member of the fine bands Moonshard and Your Lucky Day in which he plays too many guitars.  Roadie needed!

TOM HENRICHSEN
Instruments Available for Instruction: guitar and mandolin
Biography: Tom started playing guitar in 1966 and started teaching guitar full time in 1975.  From 1980 to 1983 he worked as an editor and arranger for Hansen House Music working on the Roy Classic Guitar Method as well as other country and bluegrass books.  In 1990 Tom purchased and ran El Rey music until 2004.


BEN WELZENBACH
Instruments Available for Instruction: electric guitar and classical guitar
Biography: Ben started out as a loyal student of El Rey Music Center for 8 years and then began teaching in 2005.  He is currently studying music composition at Columbia College and manages El Rey's in-house recording studio.  If yo ask to learn some Smashing Pumpkins or Talking Heads it will make his day.

ED JOHNSON
Instument: harmonica
Biography:
A veteran of the blues / rock scene, Ed has played at venues from Durty Nellie's to the Checkerboard Lounge while fronting one of northwestern Illinois' favorites, Fuzzy Mustard.


PAUL WILLIAM
Instument: guitar
Biography:
Paul first saw Nirvana on MTV and immediately wanted to learn to play guitar.  He took lessons and started the punk band The Perps.  He then attended Harper college to study classical guitar and eventually transferred to Columbia to study jazz guitar.

PAT TREANOR

Biography:
Pat earned her master's degree from the American Conservatory of Music and has been an instructor for 15 years.  She also attended DePaul and harold Washington.  Although she is very well-versed, Pat's passion lies in classic rock and blues.

NAHUM SMITH

Biography:
Nahul is a Chicago area guitarist who spends most of his weekly hours practicing.  His varied musical interests have led to studying jazz, blues, and classical.  Although he derives inspiration from these styles, as well as learning new instruments, he main passion is rock and metal electric guitar.
